3 Big wins at Supremacy 9!

Big Wins at Supremacy 9!

Team Phoenix fighters went 3 fights and 3 wins at Supremacy 9 Mixed Martial Arts show on 16th of February 2013!
Big congratulations to Jack Beaton who at the age of 15 had his first K1 fight to kick off the show. Jack showed great composure and pressured his opponent during the whole of the 3 rounds. Jack took a unanimous decision and a 1-0 fight record!

Dave Wylie was second up with his debut MMA semi pro fight. Daves opponent was desperately trying to get him to commit so he could take him to the floor, but Dave fought a very smart fight picked his shots and scored a 3rd round knock out.

Wayne Lewis was in the cage for his second pro fight. The fight was a whirlwind of action as the fighters went to the floor and Wayne switched from lock to lock and eventually gained knee ride against the cage and forced his opponent to submit to strikes.
Brilliant night for Team Phoenix, well done guys!

Supremacy Fight Challenge 8 Nov 11th 2012

Simon Fox and Wayne Lewis will be fighting on this show. Simon is fighting for the Featherweight Semi-Pro British title and Wayne will be making his pro debut.

Aer-Con Friday evenings

Aerial conditioning!

As most of the Team Phoenix crew know, our amazing Aerial coaches Colm & mona hold a regular friday night Aerial conditioning class from 6pm-7pm at the gym.

These classes are open to anyone (not just members of Team Phoenix or phoenix aerial). These are two of the top Aerialists in Europe and know their conditioning! Its very unique and certainly different but our fighters and students alike all benefit from the wealth of experience colm and mona have in this field.

Supremacy FC7

Supremacy fight challenge 7, Gateshead August 4th 2012

Paul Gregson made his pro-debut at lightweight on the seventh installment of Supremacy FC, winning via key lock in round one!
Very proud of Paul's attitude to training and his determination. He has only had 4 fights at semi-pro but his dominant style is just much more suited to pro rules, he rose to the challenge brilliantly, as we knew he would!

Bad Company junior interclub & sparring evening

Many thanks to Richard Smith for having our juniors Jack Beaton and Lewis Converoy down to their junior interclub. Very pleased with both boys who showed so much potential given that they have only been training for 4 months. Our adult fighters enjoyed a good evening of sparring too :)

Ron Balicki Seminar June 2012

Team phoenix welcomed Ron Balicki back for his annual weekend seminar. Thanks to all the people who came from far and wide to train with him. As usual the seminar covered Jun-Fan kick boxing, panantukan, Kali, Thai Boxing, Silat and of course Shoot Wrestling.
Ron is quite simply amazing, a ridiculously talented martial artist who never, ever fails to bring his a-game!

Supremacy FC6

May 2012 Supremacy FC6

Eric Kapas made his semi-pro mma debut at 66kg on the sixth installment of Supremacy winning with the slickest submission of the night at the end of round 1 (voted best sub of the show). Eric is an unbelievable talent who will hopefully continue fighting, he os only 20 years old so plenty of time!

Supremacy FC5

Supremacy FC5 February.

Paul Gregson, Chrissy Quinn and Wayne Lewis all fought on the fifth installment of Supremacy. Paul had a nightmare with 2 different opponents pulling out on him. Luckily he was rematched albeit not with the fight we wanted for him, but many thanks to his opponent for stepping in and making sure Paul got to still fight after a solid 2 month training camp.
Paul won in round 1 via keylock, this will be his last fight at semi-pro.

Chrissy had a great fight with Callum Rose (Hanuman) which he lost on decision. His wrestling has improved a lot and so has his confidence. It was a very close fight especially rounds 1 and 2 but Cal edged it in round 3.

Wayne was fighting for the semi-pro european title against Will McCurdy (Scotland) but lost to an arm bar in round 2. This was his first loss in 7 fights so always a learning curve, but taking nothing away from Will who is an outstanding talent, and we look forward to him defending the strap on Supremacy. This was also Waynes last semi-pro fight, his next one, along with Paul will be pro.

Vinny Shoreman seminar

Vinny returned for the third year running to hold another NLP/Hypnosis seminar! It was really well attended (thanks everyone for coming) and Vinny once again, gave us lots of stuff to work with! A really enjoyable day with one of the funniest guys around!

Supremacy FC4

November 2011 Supremacy FC4

Paul Gregson and Wayne Lewis fought on this event, the fourth installment of Supremacy FC in Gateshead.

Paul went toe to toe with the unbeaten and more experienced Dave Bowmer (The Dungeon). This was Pauls third semi-pro fight and his first at lightweight (his others were at welter). It was non-stop from the bell with Paul loosing on decision. Very proud of him, not least for being the first person to take Davie the distance! He will learn from it and move on.

Wayne made his second succesfull defence of his British Title beating Wayne Coxon in round 1 via armbar, and is now 6-0-0.

This was the best we have seen both of them fight. The atmosphere for Wayne's fight was unreal! One of the best Supremacy's to date!

Beginners course

The next beginners course will begin on Tuesday 13th September and running for 4 consecutive tuesdays.

Carl Adams is fighting on the Northern Fight League Thai Boxing show on 16th October at Liquid envy in the town.

Supremacy FC3 August 27th 2011

Wayne Lewis and Paul Gregson fought on the third installment of Michael Surtees top northeast MMA promotion Supremacy Fight Challenge 3.

Wayne made a successful first defence of his British Lightweight title beating AFC's Paul Holmes in 57 seconds of round 1 via armbar and is now 5-0 semi-pro.

Paul Gregson beat Spartans Paul Vietch by TKO with a knee to the head in 1min 07seconds of round 1 bringing his semi=pro record to 2-0.

So proud of both of you. Train hard fight easy!

Aerial conditioning class 02/07/2011

Supremacy 2: New British Champion :)

Congratulations to Chrissy Quinn and Wayne lewis who fought on Michael Surtees top Northeast Promotion Supremacy Fight challenge 2.

Chrissy had a very tough first round and despite winning the round on the judges scorecard, he sustained a serious fracture to his orbital bone and the medic refused to let him continue (although Chrissy wanted too). No one wants to loose on a doctor stoppage, but Chrissy's superb performance earned him semi-pro fighter of the night. Well done mate.

Wayne lewis brought his semi-pro record to 4-0-0 and won the Semi-Pro british Title. Having had some very tough opposition in previous fights, one of which saw Wayne stopping the excellent James brown in 56 seconds, this should on paper, have been straightforward, however his opponent, a very game Onur Cagler was the first person to take Wayne out of the first round and make him work, work, work (Just as it should be in a Title Fight) but Waynes skills and conditioning seen him through to win by triangle that was an almost carbon copy of the finish in his fight against Brown.

Very proud of Wayne, he deserved the shot and deserved the win, good work gadget!

Peter Robinson Marathon Des Sables

Pete 'Peaches' Robinson successfully completed the Marathon Des Sables, the hardest footrace on earth, after completing a total of 251km. We are very proud of his amazing achievment. Well done Peaches.
